IIT Hyderabad: Admission 2026, Courses, Fees, Cutoff, Placement, Ranking

Indian Institute of Hyderabad, popularly known as IITH, was established in 2008 and is a rather new IIT. IIT Hyderabad offers B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees in ten Engineering courses, B.Des. and M.Des. degrees in Design and MSc degrees in science. In 2019, the institute started offering M. A. in Development Studies. The institute also offers PhD in engineering, sciences, and Liberal Arts. It takes admission through entrance exams like JEE Advanced, UCEED, GATE, IIT JAM, CEED, etc. Admission for MTech for this year has closed, GATE applications for 2026 will start from August 2025 and the exam will be conducted in February 2026. For BTech admissions, JoSAA counseling is almost at its conclusion, the registered candidates can check their cutoff from the official site. IIT Hyderabad is ranked 12th in the NIRF overall rankings and 8th in the engineering category in the year 2024 while it achieved a ranking of 681-690 in QS World University Rankings 2025. 

The IIT Hyderabad placements for 2025 have not yet been released, but the previous year's statistics indicate a strong placement record with an average package of 20.07 LPA and a highest package of 90 LPA. A total of 320 companies visited the campus, and 521 offers were made, including 43 international offers. Some of the top recruiters of IIT Hyderabad include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart, TSMC, Adobe, Schlumberger, etc.

IIT Hyderabad application process 2026 is fully centralized for UG (BTech/B.Des) through national portals with no separate IIT-specific fee, starting with JEE Main registration on jeemain.nta.nic.in from October 31, 2025 (fee ₹1,000 for General boys, ₹800 girls, ₹500 SC/ST/PwD), followed by JEE Advanced application on jeeadv.ac.in April 21–30, 2026 (fee ₹2,800 for General boys, ₹1,400 girls, ₹1,400 SC/ST/PwD), then JoSAA choice filling June 10–18 on josaa.nic.in with ₹35,000 seat acceptance fee (₹17,500 for SC/ST/PwD) post-allotment, and uploading Aadhaar/marksheets for verification during physical reporting July 20–31.

• PG Application: Online form on iith.ac.in April 1–30, 2026 (fee ₹300 for MTech/MSc/M.Des; PhD cycles Jan/Jul with ₹300 fee).

Step-by-Step UG Application Process (BTech)

1. JEE Main Registration: Apply on jeemain.nta.nic.in (Oct 31–Nov 27, 2025). Fill personal/academic details, upload photo/signature, pay fee online (net banking/debit/credit/UPI). Sessions: Jan 21–30 (Session 1), Apr 1–10 (Session 2).
2. JEE Advanced Application: Qualify top 2.5 lakh in JEE Main, then register on jeeadv.ac.in (Apr 21–30, 2026). Use JEE Main roll no., fill details, upload docs (Class 10/12 marks, category cert.), pay fee. Exam: May 18, 2026.
3. JoSAA Registration & Choice Filling: Post-results (June 9), register on josaa.nic.in (June 10–15). Fill/lock up to 100 preferences (IITs/branches), upload docs (Aadhaar, marksheets, category cert.). Mock allotments June 16/19.
4. Seat Allotment & Acceptance: 6 rounds (June 20–July 10). Pay ₹35,000/₹17,500 acceptance fee online (SBI gateway) after allotment; choose Freeze/Slide/Float. Adjusted in semester fees.
5. Document Verification & Reporting: Online upload during JoSAA; physical at IITH July 20–31 with originals. Pay balance fees (~₹1.3 lakh General).
6. Spot Rounds (if needed): CSAB for vacancies (July 20–25); register separately, fill choices, pay acceptance if allotted.

Step-by-Step PG Application Process (MTech/MSc/M.Des via GATE/JAM/CEED)

1. Entrance Exam: Qualify GATE (Feb 7–15, 2026), JAM (Feb 15), or CEED (Jan 2026). Register via respective sites (Aug–Oct 2025, fees ₹1,800–2,800).
2. IITH Application: Apply on iith.ac.in (Apr 1–30, 2026). Select program/specialization, upload GATE/JAM score, resume, SOP; pay ₹300 fee online.
3. Shortlisting & Selection: COAP (MTech, May–June) or CCMN (MSc) for allotment; dept. interviews (May 15–20) for final merit.
4. Fee Payment & Reporting: Acceptance fee via COAP (~₹10,000, adjustable); report July/Aug with docs.

IIT Hyderabad Eligibility Criteria 2026

• BTech (UG): Must qualify JEE Main (top 2.5 lakh) and JEE Advanced; Class 12 (or equivalent) passed in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM); at least 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top 20 percentile in board exam; born on/after October 1, 2001 (5-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD); max 2 consecutive attempts.
• B.Des (UG): Qualify UCEED; Class 12 (or equivalent) passed in 2024, 2025, or 2026 in any stream; minimum 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwD); born on/after October 1, 2001 (5-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD); max 2 consecutive attempts.
• MTech (PG): Bachelor's degree (BTech/BE/BS or equivalent) in relevant field with at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD); valid GATE 2026 score (minimum qualifying marks, e.g., 500+ for EE); shortlisting via COAP followed by interview.
• MSc (PG): Bachelor's degree (BSc or equivalent) in relevant field with at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD); valid IIT JAM 2026 score; selection via CCMN counseling.
• M.Des (PG): Bachelor's degree (B.Des/BTech or equivalent) in relevant field with at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD); valid CEED 2026 score; followed by department interview.
